MOUNT HOBSON CROQUET CLUB.
Beautiful weather and good play made ;the opening of the Mount Hobson Croquet Club held at their grounds in Omahu Road, Remuera, yesterday afternoon, most enjoyable. The tables in the pavilion were artistically arranged with red and white flowers, the club colours, and in a central was a large birthday cake, it being the club's lGth birthday. In her opening address, Mrs. J. C. Badeley, the president, commented on the growth of the club. Sixteen years ago' they had started with a membership of 20 and now their numbers were 54. A vote of thanks to tho honorary green superintendent, Mr. Harbitt, was unanimously carried. Mrs. Badeley received the players in a frock of navy blue crepe do chine, with a georgette and lace coat and navy hat; Mrs. Worthington (treasurer), wore figured crepe de chine, black silk coat and rose hat; Mrs. W. E. Arey (secretary) was in floral silk, with black straw hat. Also present, were: Mes- ■ dames F. Clark, S. Harbutt, Somerville, F. W. Wilson, Guthric, Buchanan, Mills -Palmer,. Shrimpski, Lewis, Hodge, Wight, Baddeley, Clayton, Johnston, Payne, Mitchell, Noton, Bull, Gresham, .Campbell, McKay, Harvey, Marsh, Donaldson, Keary, Herslefc, Cole, Mueller, Rossiter, Wetherilt, Blakey, Abbott, .Jenkin and Misses Bowden and Jenkin. The prize-winners were: A, Mrs. Rossiter; B, Mrs. Gresham,
The large ballroom at the Adelphi Cabaret, Wellington, was crowded to the utmost capacity, when the ; Women's National Reserve of Wellington City and suburbs held a farewell-function in honour of Her Excellency, Lady Alice Fergusson. The rooms were charmingly decorated with beautiful pink and white double cherry blossom, and the tea tables with spring flpwers, while the Vice-Regal table had handsome tulips. Tho Wellington district president (Mrs. L. 0. H. Tripp), with members of the executive, met Lady Alice, and presented her with a charming bouquet of pink and white sweet peas and bronze foliage, and then conducted her to the platform. Mrs. Baird accompanied Her Excellency, and Lord Waleran was in attendance. On the platform were Mrs. Tripp, Mrs. Corliss - (Dominion' president of the W.N.R.), Mrs. James Findlay (hon. treasurer), the Hon. Dr. Collins (chairman of residential nursery), Mrs. Snell (general secretary), Mrs. Florence Porter (organising secretary), Mrs. Guthrie (president of welfare branch), tho Mayoress (Mrs. G. A. Troup) and Mrs. J. G. Coatee.
