SOCIAL JOTTINGS.

A pleasant time was spent by the Devonport. W.C.T.U. on Wednesday, afternoon at the residence of Mrs. F. Evans, Hamana Street, who lent her home for a drawing room meeting. The president, Mrs* Williams, presided, and Mrs. Lee Cowie gave an inspiring address.

Mrs. Trevor Davis was hostess at;a little' farewell party to Mrs., L. J. Patrick, who sails on a trip to England ehortly. Spring flowers made the rooms very charming and a very good time was spent by the guests. Mrs. Davis wore a frock of deep red cloth, relieved with touches of blue; Mrs. Patrick was in brown, with hat and furs to tone. Among those present were: Mrs. Rex Hoyes, Mrs. Trevor Brett, Miss Biddy Philcbx, Miss Jean Macindoe, Miss Jean Lawford and Mrs. F. Castles. ."■'"■

Mrs. C. E. Hardley, Heme Bay, entertained a number of her friends at the J.C.L. tea room on Tuesday afternoon. An enjoyable afternoon was "spent in progressive bridge. The hostess received in a -lavender costume, with lemon' and lavender hat, and fox furs. Among the guests-Were: Mesdames Adams,-' Bell, Blade, Buckle, Bray, Cox, Crowe, Dow;le, Evans, Gallaher, Gill, Green, Hamilton, Hazard, G. A. Hardley, Hilton, Hodge, Horsley, , . Johnstone, Leonard, Lonergan, Noton, : Oswald, Owen, Prosser, sen.,-Pearl,-P. Smith, Torrance and Whitten, Misses Brown, Burton and Dowle. The prizes were won by Miss Brown, Mesdames Evans, Hilton and Horsley.

Miss .Mitchell, of Mount Eden, gave a dance at the Domain Kiosk on Saturday evening, when tie guest of honour was Miss W. Sherry. Tie supper tables were decorated in shades,of blue and pink. The hostess wore a black and silver lace, frock, worked in diamante; Mrs. W. iYoung, ciel blue embroidered georgette, and side draperies; Mrs. W. Hay ward, black and floral georgette; Mrs. Powell, black chepe de chine; Miss Sherry, white chenille and net frills; Miss' Towner, Alice blue taffeta, and satin hip bow; Miss J. Hicks, coral chiffon, and shoulder spray of roses; Miss P. Chirnside, jade ninon, pink taffeta bow; Miss T. Tye, black ninon, worked in silver and pink; Miss F. Barnes, rose shot taffeta; Miss M. Spur, black and scarlet georgette, ivory shawl; Miss S. Reville, black silk, royal blue shoulder wrap; Miss B. Wileon, black ninon, uneven hem; Miss B. Eeville, blue georgette; Miss D. Munroe, period frock of green and mauve; Miss Alice Wilson, silver lace, uneven hem, and silver butterfly bow.

A pleasant party was held, at the residence of Mr. and •Mrs. W. H. Rice, Mount Eden, on Saturday last, the occasion being the twenty - first birthday of their daughter Hilda. About 40 young friends assembled to celebrate the occasion. The rooms were tastefully decorated in tones of blue and gold. The evening was pleasantly passed in party games and competitions, arranged by Mr. Will Oatridge. Elocutionary items were rendered by Mr. H. A. Swan. At the supper interval the toast of honour was proposed by' Mr. Frank McDermott, and suitably replied to by Miss H. Eice. A novelty note was the door key presented by Mr. Eice, which >. proved to be of gigantic size. Thia was autographed by all present. Mr. A. S. Richards proposed the toast to the host and-hostess.
