In I connection with the Queen Carnival to 3 be held to raise funds for the Hockey £ Association and Rowing Club three c queens have consented to stand, Mrs. i Cyril Powell (hockey), Miss Jessie c Whiteman (rowing) and Miss Dorothy - White (sports). T The Whangarei Comedy Club held the I opening night of its production of "The I Last of Mrs. Cheyney" on Tuesday. The j Town Hall was filled for the occasion, i The part of Mrs. Cheyney was- admiri ably sustained by Miss Winnie Lamb. ; On Thursday the Whangarei Croquet Club, in conjunction with the Whangarei Bowling Club, held its official opening. The president of the Bowling Club, Mr. Wilson, presented Mrs. Delamore, president of the Croquet Club, with a bouquet of roses, and, in a pleasing speech declared the lawns open. Mrs. Delamore then started the play by driving off the first ball. Miss Ada Hill, who has been the guest of the Misses Mackay during the ladies' golf tournament, has returned to her home at Heme Bay, Auckland. Miss Freda Skellern is on a short visit to Auckland. On Friday night the Nurses' Home was the scene of a most enjoyable complimentary dance. The hostesses provided a delightful supper, Sister Rountree making a very capable mistress of ceremonies.
