TROTTING TRACK QUIET.

TRAINERS OFF TO WHANGARE

VERY LITTLE FAST WORK

NEL DE BEAU'S MERRY MILE IST

SADDLE

As most of the horsee engaged at the Northland Trotting Club's meeting left this morning there was practically nothing doing on the track, but one workout by Nel de Beau was good enough to warrant tho trip. This mare was sent a mile in saddle with C. Fairman riding her. ' Beginning faet, ehe went a merry first half, and though tiring over the last quarter of the second half, she recorded 2.14 for the mile. She is handicapped on 2.23 on Saturday and if reserved for the saddle mile should be the favourite. First Flight (Smith) worked a mile and a half. She is an easy mare to work and jogs along with a loose rein. She juet etrolled along over the first half, then stepped the next half in 1.10 and the 'last in 1.8 2-5 without beingdriven hard. Evelyn Locanda (A. Bryce) was given a smart workout over a mile and a half. Her time for the journey was just fair for one of her class, but she did every part of her work nicely, and Bryce has her very well. Student Prince was not a3ked to work faet and he wae slightly lame. It had not been decided this morning Avhether he will be sent to Northland to fulfil his engagements. Uncle Bert, who was responsible for a pleasing effort over two miles yesterday, was jogged without the hopples. Benefice ie to fulfil her engagements afc Northland. It ie some time since the bay pacer had a race and she has not been noticed doing any fast work of late. However, before the Relief Fund meeting she worked a very smart half one morning when trailing Warplane and Native Prince, and T. Lindsay, who trains her, with ordinary luck should at least get in the money with the bay mare. Word from Whangarei saye the course is in excellent order at present and the club anticipates a most successful meeting. This fixture is very popular and no doubt there will be a good crowd going up from Auckland either by the steamer Clansman to-morrow at 10 p.m. or the special train on Saturday at 6 a.m.

Etta Cole, who broke badly twice yeeterday when trotting a mile, was out this morning well booted up. F; Gilchrist stood her flat-footed and stepped her a half in 1.10 2-5. She was then pulled up. Later she was again lined up to go a half from a stand, but this

time, after going less than a furlong, she went "iu the air" and, took eome

time to settle down again. The daughter of Peterwah is showing heaps of speed, but she is not trotting nearly so steadily ae previously.
