MYTHICAL POULTRY FARM. COUNTRY WOMAN VICTIMISED YOUNG MAN SENT TO GAOL. "This young man is a confounded nuisance. He has been at this game for three or, four years, and simply won't desist," said 3 Chief Detective Hammond, about Herbert William Taylor (30), at the Police Court this morning. Taylor, for whom Mr. Noble appeared, pleaded guilty to two charges of stealing cheques for £1 7/6 and £2 5/0. Mr. Hammond said Taylor advertised in the newspapers that he had a poultry farm at Henderson, and quoted prices. A woman living at Ohura, near Levin, replying to his advertisement, sent a cheque for £2 5/6 for eight ducks. The £2 was for the ducks and the odd money to cover the expenses. "The lady got nothing, she did not receive the ducks or jier money back," added the chief detective. Taylor had one previous conviction against him. "Only the other day he advertised fruit for bslU. He has no poultry farm."
