"BROADCASTING" CHEQUES.
YOUNG MAN ADMITS FRAUD. RESTITUTION PROMISED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, Wednesday. John Cable Ford, aged 29, pleaded guilty to 12 charges of obtaining money by means of valueless cheques in. the Police Court this morning. . Detective Sergeant Hewitt said Ford had opened an account one one of tlie local banks some years ago. He had operated on that account, but knew that it had nearly expired. In company with a.lad of 17 he had obtained a motor car from a local firm and had gone on a tour of Southland broadcasting A'alueless cheques. He had finally made his way to Sydney, where he had given himself up. As the complainants were not then in a position to pay the cost of transport he was released. He stowed away on a boat and landed in Auckland, where lie war. arrested and brought to Invereargill. Counsel, for accused said he had had liquor wlien the valueless cheques were passed. Restitution would be made, to all who had been defrauded. . The magistrate deferred sentence until to-niorrow. ' • ■
