TRANSACTIONS ON 'CHANGE.
FAIR BUSINESS DONE. BANKS STILL PREFERRED. Business continued satisfactory yesterday afternoon, but this morning it was very quiet, and only a single transaction was recorded at the morning call. Special attention is still directed to the banking section, with sales at the lower levels recently established. Bank of New Zealand is a little firmer, and South British shares have advanced on announcement of an increased dividend rate. A parcel of Government 4%'s (1938) was offered at £100 12/6. The Noon Call. During the course of the morning business livened up, and a fair number of parcels had changed hands by mid-day. At the noon call bidding was more animated, particularly for bank shares. A sale of South British at an advance of 1/3 confirmed the improvement shown since the dividend was announced. Interest Rates. The return to the investor on his outlay, based upon the latest dividends and in the case of loans and debentures upon redemption at maturity, works out as follows for the latest sales:— PER CENT TER ANNUM. £ s. d.
