LOCAL BODIES.

MOUNT ROSKILL ROAD BOARD. Mr. E. F. Jones, chairman, presided over the meeting of the Mount RoskiE Road Board, held last night and attended by all the members. Street Lamps.—The Auckland..Electric Power Board agreed to keep the street lamps alight on the bus and tram route) until 1 a.m. without extra charge to the local bodies. Drainage—Mr. J. Dawson, C.E reported on the western area drainage scheme, and advised the hoard that according to (previous plans the sewers in some places were to be laid to a depth o£ 15 to 16ft in solid rock, whereas by a change in the course of the drain this could be avoided. Another eewer was to be laid ■under a line of pinus insignus stumps. Consequently, he found at would fca necessary to recast the layout of the scheme, and it would probably be Christmas before he had his plans and specifications ready for the board. Rating Bill—Mr. C. G. Munns informed the board that the Minister had agreed •to insertion in the Urban Lands Rating Bill of a provision to include road hoards in the Eden County, but that stage has not been reached, while it was unlikely that the bill would be reached this session. Street Collection.—The St. John Ambulance Association and seven other benevo< lent societies suggested that the "number of street collections allowed in each year should be limited to seven, in addition to one for Poppy Day. It was decided to adhere to the previous resolution in favour of four days only. Mosquito Nuisance—Warning was received from the Health 'Department regarding the approaching mosquito season. The use of kerosene was strongly advised, not only for stagnant water; but also for water tanks, and,-it was emphasised that this would not injure the water used for domestic purposes. Tramway Flat Rate.—The chairman reported at length on the conference of local 'body representatives held last Thursday at Mount Eden to consider a flat rate in tram fares. He then referred to the meeting of the Auckland Transport Board held yesterday, and moved, and it was agreed, that Mr. F. S. Morton, the hoard's representative on the Transport Board, be asked to furnish Mount Roskill Road Board with a detailed report of these proceedings. Permits. —Ten permits for new buildings were ksued during the fortnight, of a total value of £2233. Water Supply—ln reply to a request for a water supply in Ridge Road, the engineer was (instructed to furnish an estimate of the cost of laying a 4in main. The chairman said the ratepayers would have to sanction a loan to pay for the reticular tion of that area.
