The Tudor tearoom was the scene of a very fashionable gathering this morning, when an exquisitely-robed fashion parade was held to augment the funds of the Campbell Free Kindergarten, the delightful room being lent by Messrs. Milne and Choyce. Mrs. Arthur Gillies, whose suggestion it was, and a committee of ladies organised the proceedings, and they were ably assisted by the staff. In her opening speech, the Countess of Orford sketched briefly, the work that was being done by the kindergartens of Auckland. The schools filled a very urgent need in the lives of "the | little ones, she said, and they received a happy and healthy form of discipline, She thanked Milne and Choyce for their' support and also for supplying the outfit for the beautiful bridal procession, and she paid, high tribute to the members of the committee who had worked so strenuously to make the parades a 1 success. A bouquet was presented to the Countess by Miss Toni Nathan. 'Those on the committee we're: Mrs.'. Sidney Nathan (chairman), Lady Sinclair Lockhart, Mrs. Arthur Gillies, Mrs. TTW. Leys, Mrs. E. H. B. Milsom, Mrs. Algie, Mrs. Coleman, Mrs. Casement Akkra, Mrs. Selwyn Upton,'Mrs. Walshei Mrs. Thompson, and Mrs. Keesing. The programme opened with a number of little songs sung in the sweet childish voices, of some of the little ones from the Campbell Free Kindergarten, who made thar exit amidst rounds of applause. Then followed the. parade of frocks of different nations and modern frocks.,. All the frocks were worn by members of'the younger set, and much grace and charm was shown by the amateur mannequins as they took the stage and displayed with attractive ease the many beautiful frocks. Mrs. Trevor Davis headed the procession wearing a creation entitled "Green Goddess." Miss Jean Macindoe was a Spanish dancing girl; Miss Alfreda Suter, Turkish costume; Miss Tweet Macindoe, Indian girl; Miss Alison Kirkcaldie (Wellington), Queen of Shebaf Miss Jean Lawford, Spanish girl; Miss Jocelyn Bloomfield and Miss Patricia Clover, Chinese maids; Miss Nancy, Otway, Russian costume; Miss Ellice Alison, Alsatian costume; Miss Janettfl Wallace, a Persian lady; Miss Nancy Colbeck, a Venetian lady; Miss Audrey Alison, Egyptian harem lady; Miss Biddy Pbilcox, Miss New Zealand. Miss Peggy Robertson and Miss Dorothy Didsbury appeared in frocks thit were the.voguo at time of the reign of George 111. A crinoline frock of 1866 was worn by Miss Dene Plummer. Miss Winsome Airey took the spectators back to the bustles and toques of 18S0. Mrs. W. Geddes wore a frock of the', foolish 'nineties, when puff sleeves, wasp waists and butterfly bonnets were in vogue. The fashion dictates of 1900 were revealed by Mrs. Lowrie MacGregor. Miss Nag Noakes showed by her robe the yearl9w» when normal lines and graceful drapings were introduced. Miss Alison Kirkcaldie appeared in a gown adaptable to cabaret or race wear, and Mrs. Prentice wore a charming evening gown of moire silk, fashioned for modern wear. The concluding item was perhaps the most interesting of all. It was entitled 1» Bride," and revealed a unique study » style changes during the past 50 years, the bridal attire being fashioned by the modistes of Milne and Choyce, Ltd. IM sown worn by Mrs. H. Wilson took pie onlookers back to the days of 1380, and a delightful version of the modern weddiner gown was worn by Miss Les.cj Waller.
