October 26, 28—Wellington R.C October 28. 30—Gore R.C. ■ November 2—Carterton B.C. . - November 2—Banks Peninsula R.C. November 7. 9—Whangarei R.C. November 9, 11, 13. 16—Canterbury J.C. November 16, 18—Waikato R.C. ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS. J.P.F. (Owhango).—Oakleigh was raced by Messrs. G. and F. Peach and was trained by C. Coleman, at Ellerslie. Western Lass, of- the Final Handicap, run at Randwick last Saturday, is a full-sister to Appellant, who ran third in the Hobsqn" Handicap at the recent meeting.at Ellerslie. The ex-New Zealandjockey M. McCarten rode two winners on .the final day of the A.J.C. meeting. He was on Bonnie Marjorie in the Chester Handicap and Comanche in the Clibborn Stakes. McCarten is reported to beridingin great form at the present, time. Green. Linnet, who was .solidly supported for the Canonbury, Stakes Randwick on Saturday last," is by Tonbridge from Lady | Egletine. She : was taken across to Australiabythe Hawera trainer, J." Pryer. - '..'■. , " -The death is announced of Mrs. B. Stivens, of Wallacetown, Southland, owner of Baldowa and Bed Boa, says our Dunedin correspondent.- • Red Boa raced at Wingatui on Saturday. Mrs. Stivens, who had not enjoyed the best of health-lately,, died suddenly-on Sunday, . _' , , _ '

. Quincoma, who has been off the scene for some months, has been entered for flat events at the Whangarei meeting. He is engaged-in the Parahaki Handicap on the opening day, which event he was successful in winning a couple of seasons ago. " . . ..

Although Praetor failed to earn a win- ' nincr bracket as a two-year-old last season he displayed promising form and i was in the money on two occasions. He is coming on nicely under J..Williamson's guidance at Ellerslie and should be capable of paying his way in hack events at the country fixtures. The Taranaki-trairied hunter Pikimai, who claims a couple of engagements at the Waikato Hunt meeting on Labour Day, won the Hack Steeplechase at the WaVerley meeting in June last. .He finished second to Archangel in the Hunters Hurdles at Cambridge twelve months ago. '~ . • .: Taueriri, who has been allotted topweight in the Flying Handicap at the Poverty Bay meeting, has done well since he raced at the Avondale meeting. He is engaged in the Makaraka Handicap, one mile, also the Farewell Handicap, six furlongs, to be run on the second day at the above meeting, and if taken across should pay expenses on the trip. The Metropolitan Handicap seems to have been a bit unlucky for New Zealand horses during the last three years; Limerick was beaten by Murillo in 1927, and last: season Oratrix was second to Jocelyn. Last week Nightmarchhad to co under to Loquacious. Limerick carried 9.5, Oratrix 7.12 and Nightmarch 9.12. Even though Nightmarch missed the big prize in the Metropolitan Handicap at the A.J.C meeting, last week, his trip to Sydney has been a most remunerative one. He accounted for the Spring Handicap at Tattersall's meeting, was third in the Hill Stakes at Rose/hill,, won the Epsom Handicap, finished second in the Metropolitan Handicap, and won the Randwick Plate, making his total stakes over £7000,, Only for his 101b penalty in the Metropolitan, which made his weight 9.12, he. would probably have won that-too. Nightmarch -has ; 9.2' in the Melbourne Cup. .'-■'.'■•■; i .i :«a>oawM*<WH

The. Night Raid—Moiselle, three-year-old Night Lad gave evidence of an earlyreturn to! form by finishing second to Celerity 11. in the Ranfurly; Handicap at the Dunedin meeting. As a two-year-old last season he was equal to winning three of -the races that he contested at that age, and keen judges predict a successful career for him during the present term.

Prior to the - A.J.C.»Derby Comanche split one of his fore hoofs and. probably that may have gone against-him in-the "blue ribbon," for he failed to get into the money. On Saturday, however, he recompensed his admirers to some extent by winning the Clibborn Stakes, one mile. Comanche showed good- form as a two-year-old last season and one of his best efforts was in running Honour to a short head in the Sires' Produce Stakes, seven furlongs, at'Randwick. He is engaged in the Caulfield Cup, V.R.C. Derby and Melbourne Cup.

Pentheus, who won the Caulfield Guineas on Saturday, is by Rossendale from Cereica, a'sister to Maple, who won the Caulfield Cup last season. As a two-year-old last season.he won two events and dead-heated.' in another," out of - five starts.;-. Pentheus finished third in the Hobartvilie Stakes last'month to Toper and Holdfast, .but failed to get into the money in' the -Rosehill -Guineas or- the A.J.C. Darby. However, he accounted for the Grantham . Stakes at ■ Randwick last week; f and h his ~ next outing' was in the Caulfield Guineas. Pentheus -is - engaged in -the Caulfield- Cup,' V.R.C. ' Derby and Melbourne Cup.; •

Dutch Money, after her: good showing in. the, Maiingatua Handicap, seven furlongs, at: Dunedin on Thursday' and her pleasing efforts at Raccaxton and Ashburton previously, was thought- to Jiave the Dunedin Guineas at her mercy on Saturday, but r she was, beaten into third place at the>.finish. ' She is-by Paper Money from Dutch ? Clock, ,by Nassau from Ormolu, who was imported to New. Zealand'by the late Mr.-G:G. Stead. Ormolu neverthrew anything of note, but among her; progeny was Bon Bord, the of that good horse Count Cavour. i Dutch Money, therefore, may stay •■ on \ better laten

The news that-Laughing -Prince has gone amiss will be received with; regret, for at the Wanganui meeting,'which.was his first start , this season, he .won a double, and ; appeared as-though .he .would again be well up in: the- winning list before the - season was through. His entry for future events 'has been confined to. weight-for-age races, and' it.-looked/ as though ; he-would rtake; all. sorts- of ibeat-i ing m the HarcourtrCup.at.Tf.entham-and' also the' Canterbury Cup. arid.;the• Stead: Memorial-Gold:Cup -,-at -Riccarton : during the-next; few-weeks.. ./

Though his in the .New Zealand •"' Stud I Book, ;Kiug > Conrad, who won .the > Waverley u Handicap •■, at Randwick on \ Saturday, is ..given, as by Nassau- from and" is ;: stated ,to be a"four-ye'ar-oidr ;.Tie"New>Zealand Stud Book shows that^inMO^. She. missed in; 1926.to'.Solferino.-Therefore King Conrad, is .not accounted for. Killala,.accordmg: returns^has-not been xiated-with-Nassau.

Sailing Home, who scored at Dunedin on Saturday, is a three-year-old by Solferino from'Strathpeffer, and is therefore a full-brother to that good mare Set Sail. Both are owned by their breeder, Dr. J. Rogers. Sailing Home only started on one occasion last season, without getting into the monev. He was third at the Geraldine meeting recently, which was his best effort previously.

As .the result of his two wins _in steeplechase events at Ellerslie, Pompeius is at the top of the handicap in the Waikato Hunt Club Steeplechase, to be decided at Cambridge this month. The Lucullus gelding, who is built on solid lines, is a good weight-carrier, and despite the 11.2 allotted him in the race referred to can be expected to put up a creditable effort if he £oes to the post.

At the Waikato Hunt meeting twelve months ago Leitrim won the Bardowie Handicap, but has not scored a win since then. The Valkyrian gelding is due to have his first race this season in the Bollard Memoral Handicap, to be run on the same course next Monday week. Leitrim put up an impressive performance when he ran Gold Money to half a head in the decision of the Visitors' Handicap at Ellerslie in June, and if he repeats that form at Cambridge he will be hard to dispose of.

Celerity 11., who scored at Dunedin on Saturday, is a pretty smart mare. . A couple of seasons ago she won eight events out of a dozen starts and was in a place on three other occasions. Last season she only accounted for one event and had two minor placings to her credit. She has commenced the present season well and more will be heard of her. Celerity was bred in England and imported to. this country by' Mr. A. Chisholm, who raced Glentruin with much success.

Home Made, who was disposed of some months ago to an Australian sportsman, has not been long in making a good return, and should now be a cheap horse. He scored in the Second Hurdle Race at Randwick on Wednesday and finished second in the Bowling Steeplechase on Saturday, earning approximately £900. As far as is known, it was his first effort over big country when he ran in Dowling Steeplechase and hisdisplay was" most encouraging.

Meprisaht, who annexed the Dunedin Guineas last Saturday, is a three-year-old gelding by Paladin from Disdainful. He first came into prominence by -winning the Trial Plate at the Ashburton spring meeting, held in September.

Mountain Guide was given a further schooling lesson over hurdles at Ellerslie last Saturday and got throilgh his task in a promisng manner. He has been entered for hurdle races at the Whangarei meeting, to be held early in November.

Kerbside, who won the Dominion Handicap at Wingatui on Saturday, is a two-year-old filly by Tea Tray from Kerb, a mare by Markhope, who was pretty useful in her day. She was raced by Mr. D. P. Wilson, who bred and owns Kerbside.

Vertigern continues to go on the right way in his work at Wanganui, and he should do well this season. He has only had two races recently, finishing.third in the Eclipse Stakes at Wanganui and second in the King Edward Handicap, one mile and a quarter, at Ellerslie. He came from a long way back over the last halfmile in the latter event, and a good handicap should go his way before long.

Waving Corn, winner of the Shorts Handicap on the concluding day at Dunedin, is by Solferino from Rosalita, who traces back to the Seaton Delaval mare Eosella. Last season Waving Corn contested twenty-one races and finished up by recording seven wins, seven seconds and three third placings. She has struck form early this season and her owner, Mr. W. Gardiner, jun., should again have a successful season with her.

Since resuming work at Ellerslie under W. Ryan's care, Importer has improved in condition and is making satisfactory progress in view of his coming engagements at the Waikato Hunt meeting on Labour Day. He was given a turn over the steeplechase fences on the fiat at Ellerslie last Saturday morning and cleared them with all his oldtime dash and proficiency. Importer has not had a race since he contested the Waikato Hunt Steeplechase twelve months ago. ;
