LESS MONEY TO SPEND.
COUNTY COUNCIL INDIGNANT,
PROTEST TO HIGHWAYS BOARD
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
NAPIER, Monday
An announcement that the Main Highways Board's subsidy to the Hawke's "Bay County Council for the current year would be only £2050, whereas the council's programme of work provided for the expenditure of £12,000 from county funds, and £36,000 from the board, aroused a storm of protest at the council meeting to-day. ..,,...:'■
The opinion was- expressed. that the decision was ridiculous. It was mentioned that the Minister of. Public Works, Hon. E."A.'.Ransom, had said the board had more money available this year than last, and the Prime Minister had assured the board its money would,be available. Members of the council thought it looked as though the board was the stumbling block at present, and' that it should make some statement of its intentions.
. A deputation from the council is to wait on the board.
