R.S.A. PREPARING.
LARGE VOLUME OF EVIDEXCE.
A large volume of evidence is being gathered by the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association to place before the commission. The secretary said to-day that the association was verv satisfied with the personnel and also with the fact that the scope of the inquiry had been wide enough to include the South African and Maori War veterans. Further, it was very satisfactory thaUhe scope of the inquiry would not be limited to pensioners. x The secretary said it was anticipated that the inquiry would open at Duuedin about the end of the present month, and that it would end at Auckland after taking evidence at other centres. For the past fortnight the association had been engaged in obtaining full particulars of the pre-war condition of ex-scr-vice men in the Auckland district, their status on demobilisation, their, present status, conditions regarding their employment and also their opinions as' to the provision of a veterans' home or adequate pensions. Replies to questoinnaires sent out were still being received at the rate of over 200 a day. Arrangements would be made for men from each class to give evidence. All the information was being kept confidential.
