OLD MAN'S INJURIES.
COLLAPSED AT HIS HOME.
ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL.
SON CHARGED WITH ASSAULT,
Late on Saturday night Mr. John Theodore Barnes, aged 74, residing at 38, West Street, Newton, was admitted to the hospital suffering from injuries to the head and loss of blood from an artery over the eye. Mr. Barnes, it is said, received the injuries in his own home, afterwards collapsing. Yesterday his injuries were said to be serious. Yesterday morning the police arrested Alfred Edward Barnes, aged 26, a motor driver, and a son of the injured man. on a charge of assault so as to causo actual bodily harm. Accused appeared at the Police Couit this morning, when he was remanded to appear again on October 21. Mr. Singer, who represented accused, said that it was at lirst thought that the injured man was seriously injured. However, he was now out of danger. Accused was admitted to bail in one surety of £100.
