FOOTBALLERS' PICNIC.
CROWD AT BROWN'S ISLAND
CUP FOR CLUB CHAMPIONS
In the s.s. Condor a large crowd of Rugby League players and supporters accompanied the South Sydney team to Brown's Island (Motukorea) ycr.terday when the visiting team and officials had what they termed "the day of their life." Apart from a general exploration of the beauties of this island, a good sports programme was arranged and carried out in enjoyable fashion. The visitors showed great aptitude in interpreting the Maori hakas under the chief rangatira, George Gardiner. The repast provided included crayfish, cooked mussels and smoked schnapper, which were' well served and relished, South Sydney boys having already gained a reputation as "Nga Tangata Kai Koura" (champion crayfish eaters). ill - . Ivan Culpan announced during the day that the Auckland Rugby League Glee Club had decided to donate a cup for annual competition between the club teams of Australia and X*w Zealand, the trophy to be first involved in the return match between South Sydney and Marists next Saturday at C'arlaw Park.
