CHINESE PICNIC.
JAUNT TO PINE ISLAND,
In a picnic to Pine Island the Chinese residents of Auckland yesterday celebrated the eighteenth anniversary of the establishment of a republican rule in China. A considerable number of Europeans joined in the celebration and travelled with the Chinese holidnvmakers in the ferry steamer Peregrine, which was bedecked for the occasion with Chinese banners. Appropriate addresses were made when the company arrived at the island, and after lunch a sports programme was held, the results being:— Children's Race, "syds.—Willie Doo 1, 0. Youk Joe 2. Girls' Handicap, 75yds.—R. Doidge 1, Wah Lee 2. Apple-eating Competition.—R. Arvold 1, Fong Cheu Git 2. 100 Yards Handicap.—Carter 1, Henley Three-legged Race.—A. Chan arid On Kee 1, Wong Gee Yee and Wong Hoy Kai 2. Shoe Race, 200 yds.—X. Doo 1. Henley 2. Tug of War.—X. Ah Chee's team 1. Married Women's Race.—Mrs. Weylie 1, Mrs. Saroly 2.
