CLUB OPENINGS.

EPSOM CLUB. Despite cloudy skies, Epsom bowling and croquet greens looked a perfect picture on Saturday when the official opening took place in the presence of a large gathering. Gaily coloured hunting ornamented the pavilion inside and out, and, the sua shone out during the afternoon, the natural beauties of the green and its surroundings were further enhanced. The opening ceremony was carried out under the most favourable circumstances. The president, Mr. Clem Blakey, referred to. the loss, through death, of valued members, Messrs. J as. Buttle, J. Lock, Fred Richmond and Gus. Townsend. He issued a welcome to all visitors, especially mentioning Messrs. S. C'oldicutt, president, T. Procter, A. Yeoman, members of the centre executive, as well as representatives of neighbouring clubs. He said he was especially glad to see so many old members. Mr. Coldicutt, on behalf ol the centre, spoke of Epsom as one of the most prosperous clubs. He had first attended its official opening in 1907, when he was secretary of the Auckland Bowling Club. Epsom had then been going a year and had taken several members of the older club, who had been extremely useful in helping to lay the foundation of the new one. Mr. Coldicutt mentioned, as an instance of the close friendship existing among bowlers, that he had received a cable from Mr. James Pascoe, of Auckland, vice-president of the Dominion association, sent from Genoa, where Mr. Pascoe was touring. BUCKLAND CLUB.

The Buckland bowling green was opened on Saturday in dull weather in the presence of a fair attendance. There were visitors from Pukekolie, Waiuku, Patumahoe, Tuakau, West End, and Onehunga clubs. Mr. A. C. Tonkin and Mr. A. E. Whitten represented the Auckland Centre executive. The president (Mr. Austin Hewitt) declared the green opened for the season, and Mrs- Hewitt threw the first jack. On Lehalf of the centre, Mr. Whitten extended best wishes for a successful season. The croquet lawns were opened by Mr. Tonkin, who congratulated the club on the progress it had made. PAPAKURA CLUB.

Mrs. E. D. McLennan, wife of the patron, threw up the jack for the first game of the season at the Papakura Bowling Club on Saturday. Representatives from Northern Waikato Association, Pukekohe, Eawhiti, Tuakau, Papatoetoe and Clevedon were present. During the afternoon, Mr. Hardley, a past president of the Auckland Centre, and Mr. Harry Clarke, visited the green, and Mr. Hardley addressed the bowlers. MANGE SE CLUB

The Mangere Bowling Club held the official opening on Saturday. There was a large attendance of visitors, representing New Lynn, Otahuhu, Clevedon, Papatoetoe, Pukekohe, Ponsonby, Rawhiti, -Carlton, Edendale, St. Helier's Bay, Stanley and Devonport Clubs. Messrs. S. Coldicutt, A. Yeoman and T. R. Procter, of the executive of the Auckland Centre, paid an informal call during the afternoon. Before calling on Mrs. Knight to throw the first jack of the season Mr. W. R. HILLSBORO' CLUB.

A large number of visitors from other clubs attended the opening of the season of the Hillsboro' Bowling Club on Saturday. The pavilion was tastefully decorated for the occasion. The President, Mr. Pearce, welcomed the visitors and said he considered bowls the masonry of sport and one that wives should be proud for their husbands to take "up. ONEHUNGA CLUB.

Tiie Onehunga bowling and croquet o-reens were opened on Saturday by the bowling president, Mr. K. Buchanan. In his opening remarks he complimented the committee on the general appearance of the club's property, and especially the fine condition of the three greens now in use. It was- pleasing to him _ and all bowlers that Onehunga was coming back to the old days, when it was considered to have the best greens in Auckland. He invited all present to view the beautiful display of red tulips and blue cornflowers which decorated the afternoon tea kiosk, and which were supplied and artistically displayed by Mrs. and Miss Schnauer. He then called upon Mrs. Buclia .n to throw the first jack, and declared the greens open for play, the official ceremony being concluded by the presentation'to Mrs. Buchanan of a bouquet of sweet peas and roses by Miss Marie Macfarquhar. Mr. >S. C'oldicutt, president of the Auckland Centre, and Messrs. T. Procter and A. Yeoman, members of the centre executive, attended during the afternoon. The president then asked all present to accompany him to the opening of the croquet greens, the first ball being played by Mrs- Buchanan. The official visitor from the Auckland Bowling Centre, Mr. A. B. Barter, complimented the ladies of the croquet club on winning the senior banner nine times in succession. Music was supplied by the Onehunga band, and the attention given to the afternoon tea arrangements was the final touch to what was considered by all prea2nt the best opening day Onehunga has ever had. The Howick Bowling Club held its opening function on Saturday in the presence of a large number of members and visitors. On the occasion of the club's coming of age, Mr. Arthur Hall, M.P. for Hauraki, made a speech and was followed by Mr. J. Hardlev. Mrs. Gilmour, wife of the founder of the club, threw up the first kitty, after which the president, Mr. A. Selby, declared the greeus open.
