NOTES FROM WANGANUI.

I/AUGHING PRINCE AMISS

VERTIGERN IN GOOD FETTLE

(By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") WANGANUI, this day.

There was some good w.ork done on the local tracks on Saturday morning, which were in good order., Auctioneer was sent six furlongs by himself, and he did the last five in 1.65, hitting out nicely. Potoaform and Star Area jumped off just short of the mile' peg, and timet! from seven furlongs, they ran the first three in 395, half in 501s, five in 1.5 and the full distance in 1.33, finishing together. Star Area was going along nicely at the end, while it was also a good gallop on the part of the Potoa gelding. Banket was sprinted over half a mile which she cut out in 52 4-os, being wide out. Just an Idea and Arisus were associated in a three furlongs flutter, and they registered 375. for the N distance. Arisus, on the inner, had just a shade the better of it. The son of Thespian hit out well and promises to win some good races later on. Vertigern was stepped out over five furlongs, which he left behind In 1.4 1-5, striding out very nicely. He looks in great fettle. Warflame and Grecian finished practij callv -together in a spin over five fur- | longs, the. time registered being 1.4. ! Count Palatine and Talisker ran six furlongs from almost a standing start, the former being a shade in front at the jump off. They finished up on even terms in 1.16 4-5, the last five furlongs being run in 1.3 2-5. Ferriden was given a run over five furlongs. He covered the first furlong in 12 2-ss, the quarter in 23 4-5s and three furlongs in 3fis, but was then eased up to run home in 1.6 1-5. Laughinsr Prince showed such great form at Wanganui last month that it appeared as if he had only to keep sound to win some of the principal weight-for-age races this season. Unfortunately the son of Quantok has gone amiss, and is an unlikely starter at Trentham or Ricearton. It will be noticed that his name does not figure among those engaged at the Auckland summer meeting.
