ANOTHER NEW CLASS. 12FT 6IN SAILING CANOES. OUTBOARD RACING CLUB FORMED. (Br SPEEDWELL.) Still another new class of boat lias been decided on for the Waitemata, and eight arc already built. A picture of the first three appears on this page. This time it is a sailing boat, actually a canvas canoe, 12ft 6in overall, with 3ft lin beam, carrying 70 square feet of sail in a jib and Marconi mainsail. The bottom and sides are of stout canvas stretched with battens, and three-ply wooden deck. It is to be known as the W class. The Whakatere Canoe Club, which is now in its third season, with headquarters at Narrow Neck, has fostered the new class, and the popular commodore, Mr. Jack Brooke, has designed

The total cost with mainsail and jib, hollow Marconi mast and boom and rigging, is £15 for materials, all the boats having been built by their young owners under the supervision of Mr. Brooke. It is always pleasing to see the young follows taking up the sailing end of the sport. The owners of these craft will in time develop into the skippeds and crew of our sailing fleet from 14-footers to keel boats. They should be a good recruiting ground for Cornwell Cup crews.
