LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
LATE BERT POWELL,
The late Mr. A. E. (-"Bert") Powell, whose death was announced yesterday, was very well known in a wide circle of sporting interests. In 1911, with Mr. E. J. Phelan, he was joint manager of the League football team which toured Australia, and in 1919 he was manager of the New Zealand League team which played the Australians at different points in the Dominion. For many years he was a selector of Auckland and New Zealand teams, and up to 192 C, when he became a life member, he was time-keeper and Press steward at Carlaw Park. He was also a prominent member of the Auckland Amateur Athletic Association, and of the Auckland Gun Club. He leaves a widow, one daughter and two sons.
