A WARNING.
PORTABLE POW>JK CORDS.
BOAED'S REPLY TO CORONER. The general manager of the Auckland Power Board, Mr. R. H. Bartley, has written to Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., with reference to fatal accidents due to the misuse of portable lamp cords as follows: — "Following on your suggestion that the Power Board should adopt some additional means of warning to the consumers in connection with the above, I am enclosing for you a sample of a warning which we are distributing to every consumer, and are also attaching it on switchboards." The notice is headed "Warning," and is printed in red letters. It reads: "Nothing is safer when properly used than electricity. The rules prohibit you from interfering with your electrical installation. Don't use makeshift apparatus. Deal only with recognised electricians. Repairs and adjustments must be done by licensed wirers. Ring Power Board for free advice." After two cases of people having been electrocuted by using portable cord lamps while standing on damp ground, the coroner, Mr. Hunt, had suggested that warnings should be given by the Power Board to consumers regarding the danger of the practice.
