HEN BAROMETERS.
Note to chicken farmers—how to make a barometer out of a hen.. Select a fine white hen and feed it, along with its regular diet, a portion of cayenne pepper. Its feathers will then become pale rose in colour. When the weather is damp the feathers become red. The damper the weather the redder in proportion will be the feathers. So exactly is the brilliance of the colour determined by the weather that a scarlet, hen is a certain sign of a storm within twelve hours.
