REVIVAL OF NEW MENTALITY.
I European literature has recently pro- ' duced several war books, equally realistic and stark in their portrayal of liori rors and misery. We are told further by " eminent publishers that , the war is coming back as a subject of interest for novels, romances, sketches and short stories. And to be sure it looks that ' way. This would seem to show a complete change in populur taste. Eight L after the war, war books were few. ' People were immensely weary of war. 1 It was a horrible nightmare to them. | Mention of it alone evoked a shudder. [ But time is effacing memories, appar- | ently even the most bitter and gruesome. \ People are not bo afraid of the idea any , longer. The possibility of another armed IJ struggle is not so universally pushed , aside as it was, say ten years ago. There [* is' again a class of young folks, strutting j along in Continental cities, who act as . if they were the cream of humanity, bet cause of their uniforms and rattling sabres. And not alone in Prufesia this time, either. With all at dis--1 armament and international friendship i agreements the control of the weapons 3 of destruction remains in the hands of ) the professional militarist and those who grow rich from the manufacture of arms.
