NOTES FROM AVONDALE.

THIS MORNING'S WORK,

SILVEBMIXE SPRINTS FAST.

Beautiful weather prevailed at Avondale this morning, and there was a fair amount of interesting work, although chiefly confined to sprinting. The course proper, with the trestles about 75fi .

from the rails, was available for fast work.

Silvermine (Flower) and Knightlike (K. Voitre) were the first to work. They jumped off at the half-mile peg, and, keeping together, they completed the task in 30 4-ss. This was the t>es» sprint of the morning, and Silvermine, who pleased most, will gain more friends for his Flying Stakes Handicap engagement to-morrow.

Flying Juliet ran five furlongs, but was not timed.

Indolent was allotted a similar task, which lie completed in 1.7 3-5.

Norval Tea put a lot of dash into a half-mile task, running the distance in 53 2-ss.

Piuthair (K. Voitre), who commenced slowly from the seven-furlong peg, ran home in 1.34 4-5, the last six furlongs being covered in 1.20 2-5.

William of Orange beat Lucky Alic« s over half a mile in 53 3-ss, and Belle Star took 54s for the same distance.

Watch Officer, Trickle and Gay Idea were companions over half a mile, and finished in that order in 52 2-ss. Watch Officer is an attractive galloper.

High Pitch narrowly defeated Waltzer and valquctte at the end of five furlongs in 1.6 2-5.

White Fang began smarter than Tahoma, and was several lengths in front over the first part of half a mile, but Tahoma got up, and was a shade in front at the finish in 52 l-ss.

Lacly Qucx and Oration wore timed to run five furlongs in 1.5 2-5. Lady Quex did her work nicely and had the better of the gallop. Transformer, Historic, Star Stranger, Prodice, Desert Glow, Benzora, Glenstar, Awarere, Flying Prince and several others all did serviceable tasks. Arrivals. Among the latest arrivals are:—J. H. Wallace, with William of Orange, Lucky Alice and Belle Star; 11. I. Spinks, with Billikins, Ohinemuri and Betterment; J. Irwin, with High Pitch and Waltzer; R. A. Edwards, with Flying Juliet and Indolent.

A. Tinker is due to-day with Paddon, Mervette, Ivaha and Imamint; F. Tutchen, with Master Roley and Fraser; M. J. Carroll, with Glena, Bay and Macroom.

Mangani, who is engaged on the second day, will be brought to Avondalc to-morrow.
