LOANS TO MEDICAL STUDENTS
OTAGO UNIVERSITY FUND. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, Wednesday. The Otago University Council has received a cheque for £1500 from Sir Lindo Ferguson, dean of the medical faculty, for the recently-established medical students' loan fund. The vice-chancellor, Mr. W. J. Morrell, said the fund had now reached £2000 and the interest on the capital would be devoted to loans to students, selected by a committee, who had passed their second professional examination, but who would have difficulty in proceeding with their course owing to lack of money. The council was appointed trustee of the fund, which in time will make it much easier for really able students marked out for the medical profession to continue their studies. The council decided to express its great gratitude to Sir Lindo Ferguson and the publicspirited anonymous donors to the fund. Dr. J. Fitzgerald said he hoped the fund would later on be extended to arts students.
