HIGHBROW THIEVES.
BURGLARY IN CHURCH. Under cover of a thick fog thieves carried a heavy-six barred gate 100 yards over churchyard walls, and used it as a ladder to break into the Priory Church at Cartmel (Lancashire). They removed a first edition of Edmund Spenser's "Faerie Queen," valued at £2000, but left other historic treasures.
