CANADIAN ATHLETES.
PROPOSED DOMINION TOUR. FINALITY NOT REACHED. (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. Doubt still obscures the question of the tour of New Zealand by crack Canadian athletes, and Athletic Council is unable to proceed with its arrangements. Latest advice is that J. Ball, who was beaten by a foot for the title in the 400 metres at the Olympic Games, has suffered an injury, and that Edwards, the half-miler, is taking up a medical course any may not be able to make the trip. There appears no trouble in getting Percy Williams, the sprint star, to make the journey to New Zealand, and the question is resolving itself into who is likely to accompany him. If Williams decides to come and the others do not other suggestions will have to be made. There is reported to be a fine javelin thrower in Canada, a man who won the Irish Games event last but it is a long way to bring a man for one event. On the other hand it is recognised that at present there are no really outstanding quavter-milers in the Dominion and few half-milers likely to develop into top class.. Finality is hoped to be reached within the next two or three weeks.
