SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

Mrs. Stephen Hunter gave an afternoon tea at the Tudor Rooms yesterday. Included among the guests were the choir boys of the Westminster Glee Singers. Baskets of flowers and dainties made the tables very attractive. Mrs. S. Hunter wore a fawn ensemble suit and cerise hat; Mrs. Branscombe was in a ■beige marocain ensemble, and 'bois de rose hat. *. • * • , The ladies of the three Methodist congregations—Avondale, Waterview and New Lynn—held a combined meeting on Tuesday afternoon in the Waterview Church, with the object of forming a branch of the Women's Missionary Union. Mrs. C. B. Jordan, wife of the vicar, occupied the chair. An address was given by Mrs. Stevens, a visiting member from Mount Albert and a past Dominion president of the union. • * * » A large company of ladies assembled in the Belmont Hall on Tuesday afternoon, when those interested in the cake stall at the forthcoming Birthday Fair provided afternoon tea. )l A bridge party was given by Mrs. Bernard Goldwater at the Lyceum Club on Wednesday afternoon as a farewell to Mrs. Laing, who is leaving for her home in Honolulu, by the R.M.m.s. Aorangi, also for Miss Moira Goldwater, who sails by the s.s. Ulimaroa for Sydney, and it, thence to Paris and London, via the East. During the afternoon a delicious tea was served in the dining room, which was in beautifully decorated with spring flowers. The following ladies were the prizewinners:—First prize, Miss E.
