October 2S—Waikato Hunt Club. October 2S—Waipawa County B.C. October 2S—North Canterbury B.C. ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS. .'AXKIOUS.—Mithra started once at the Great Northern meeting in June la«t —the King George Handicap, seven furlongs, on the .second clay. (Jay Duke, who appears among the acceptors for the Maiden Plate at the Avondale meeting, showed some pace in his races as a two-year-old last season. He was only raced on half a dozen occasions and twice finished third. Benzora is a good sprinter when right and he made his first appearance this season at the Wanganui meeting last week. Benzora looked well and it should not bo long before he picks up a stake. He is engaged at the Avondale meeting. R. S. Bagby will do the riding for J. H. Jefferd at the Avondale and Auckland meetings. The apprentices A. G. Murray and M. Gilmore accompanied Jefferd to Auckland, and their services will be available for anyone who requires them. The brood mare Solitudo, by Sea ton Delaval from Solitary, owned by Mr. F. W. Stonex. has thrown a colt foal to Gammon. The lastnamed, who was never raced, is a three-year-old colt by Romeo from Akahau, by Thurnham from Takahau. J. Lambess is giving Kauri Park a good preparation, and the Elysian gelding is standing up to it in good style. He shaped nicely in a strong work-out over a round on the course proper yesterday morning, and if raced at the Avondale meeting lie should be quite ready for the job. As a two-year-old last season Fraser put up several decent performances, and although he failed to win at that age he finished in the money .on four occasions. He is engaged in the second division of the Maiden Plate to be decided at Avondale next Saturday, and he should be equal to putting up a good showing among the class engaged in that event.

On several occasions Hampton Park has shown that he possesses abundance of spee'd. and his effort over four furlongs on the course proper yesterday, was very impressive. The Australian-bred youngster, who is not engaged ill the Avondale Stakes, is expected to make his initial appearance in the Nursery Handicap, to be run on the concluding day of the Avondale meeting.

The Avondale maiden candidate Crimestor shaped pleasingly in a sixfurlong gallop with Ruffles yesterday morning, and he is likely to be iu demand if started at Avondale next Saturday. He has not raced since he finished second to Te Taone in the Franklin Stakes last May. still he has been in work at Avondale for, some time past and is nice and forward in condition.

During the past few weeks Gay Cockade has been making good progress in his preparation under. W. J. Hawkins' care. He is not engaged on the first day at Avondale, but may be given a race on the concluding day of that meeting. He.displayed plenty of freedom while executing a six-furlong gallop on the outside of the course proper at Ellerslie yesterday morning and put up creditable time for the journey.

Seatown returned to Wellington yesterday after an unsuccessful trip to. Australia. He had two races at the Queensland Turf Club's Exhibition meeting last month, finishing second to Valparaiso in the National Plate, w.f.a., one mile and a-quarter. Seatown afterwards went amiss, due no doubt to the hard tracks he raced on, and it was decided to send him home. Seatown is not too sound and races best when the going is soft.

Singleton has arrived at Avondale and he appears tobe in good conditiono. He has not raced since the Wellington winter meeting, where he ran third to Paddon and Taneriri in the Whyte Handicap and second to High Pitch in the Parliamentary Handicap. Singleton is engaged in the* Avondale Cup and other events at Avondale and Ellerslie, and he should not return without getting some stakemoney,' for he is a useful sort.

During the past season Awarere failed to produce the foym he displayed earlier in his career, for he only managed to notch one win out of sixteen races that he contested. As a result, he is now well down in- the -weights, and if he returned to his best form he would be hard to beat over sprint distances. He finished third in both the Members' Handicap and the Visitors' Handicap at the Great Northern meeting, and that showing indicates that he may soon reach the winning list again. -:

As a three-year-old last season Lucy Rose registered' several attractive performances and finished up the season winning stake-money totalling £1475. Most of her victories were recorded around the country circuit, but towards the latter end of the season she was successful in defeating a strong field in the King George -Handicap, run at Ellerslie during the Great Northern meeting. Lucy Rose figures in the Flying Stakes, to be decided at Avondale next Saturday, and if produced in anything approaching her best form she can be relied on to put up a decent effort.

In 1924 Mr. D. J. Barry brought two youngsters by Autumn to Auckland for early classic events. One was Automne, who won the Avondale Stakes and the Welcome Stakes at Ellerslie. and the ither Golden Autumn, who finished fourth in the Avondale Stakes. This season he has brought two more by the same sire to Auckland. One is Running Over, from Accumulation, a mare bv Polydamon .from Multiplier, by Multifkl. This youngster is a full-brother to Rich Harvest, who won a couple of events last season and was placed on other occasions. ■The other is a filly called Set Fair, from Blue Sea. a mare by Athenic from Blue River. Blue Sea is the dam of Blue Jay and Xgawati, both by Autumn. Though these juveniles are not in the Avondale Stakes, they have tieen nominated for the Nursery Handicap on the second day, and next "month are engaged in the I Welcome Stakes at Ellerslie. j

Demoiselle, the dam of Democratic, who has won the last three races that he has contested, has thrown a colt foal to Lucullus. Her owner. Mr. T. J. B. Stewart, also possesses a two-year-old fillv bred on similar lines.

Sea Cob has only had one race this season, and that was at the Pakuranga Hunt Club's meeting, when he annexed the Auckland Handicap, one mile.' with 0.0, the minimum for that event. He has been accepted for in the Swanson Handicap, one mile, at Avondale on Saturday and has 8.11, which is 111b above the minimum, and he should go a good race.

True Blood, wb>- was off the scene for some time, made his reappearance at the Pakuranga meeting and ran fourth in the Jellicoe Handicap, one mile and a-quarter. True Blood was a good three-year-old, and if he has gone along the right way in the meantime he should not be long before he collects a stake. He is engaged at the Avondale meeting.

The Chief Ruler two-year-old Ruling King has made a good recovery from the cold that he contracted a couple of weeks ago and will fulfil his engagement in the Avondale StaKes at the end of this week. He shaped particularly well in a halfmile sprint on the course proper yesterday morning and the effort is sure to bring him into favour again for Saturday's contest.

Leader has only started three times this season, and has won each event. He has been brought to Ellerslie and yesterday morning was sent over half a mile in company with Amor. They ran the distance in'ol 2-ss. and Leader pleased by the manner in which he got through his task. He is a line-looking colt and a good mover, and he is sure to have friends in his engagements here. He is in the Members' Handicap at Avondale on Saturday.

Prodice lias not raced this season, but last season she was the best three-year-old of her sex from a stake-earning point of view. In addition to capturing the Avondale Guineas and the Great Northern Guineas, she was third in the King's Plate at Ellerslie, second in the Great Northern Derby and second in the Takapuna Cup, while on the following day of the Takapuna meeting she won the Takapuna Jockey Club Handicap. Prodice annexed the Great Northern Oaks, but Mas beaten in the Great Northern St. Leger. That was her last start, and if she is approaching her threc-vear-okl form she should have something to say in the decision of the Avondale Cup next Saturday.

Amor, who has been brought up from Ricearton to Ellerslie, is a five-year-old gelding bv Archery from Warlove (a fullsister to Warstep). Last, season Amor was a good performer up to a mile. He won the T.ongbeach Handicap, six furlongs, at Ricearton, the Kaikorai Handicap? one mile, at Dunedin. the Ashley Handicap, one mile, at Ricearton, and the President's Handicap, one mile, at South Canterbury. He was brought north for the Auckland summer meeting and, after finishing second in the Fergusson Handicap, was third in the Ellerslie and Grev Handicaps. Amor subsequently won the Warrington Handicap, one mile, at Dunedin, and also annexed the Autumn Handicap, one mile and three furlongs, at Treuthani. Amor is looking well and should run well in his engagements here. He is among those carded for the Henderson Handicap at Avondale next Saturday.
