MRS. M. A. PILKINGTON.
A resident of Auckland for eighty years, Mrs. Mary Ann Pilkiiigton, died at her home in Symonds Street, aged 93. Mrs. Pilkington had enjoyed good health till a few weeks ago, when she had the misfortune to fall and fracture a ril>- She was born in Perth, Scotland, behig a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Taylor. Her father died when she was a girl, and Mrs. Taylor came to Auckland with her daughter in the ship, St. Michael, in 1549. Mrs. Taylor opened a shop in Queen Street on the site now occupied by Smeeton's Buildings, mother and daughter living on the premises. At the age of 20 years, Miss Taylor was married to Mr. John Stapleton Pilkington, an Auckland builder who was drowned at Mahurangi about 53 years ago. For 44 years, Mrs. Pilkington had lived at the house where she died, it being one of the oldest in that vicinity. Two unmarried sons, Mr. Alexander, and Mr. George Pilkington,' survive their parents. Mr. John Marshall, and Mrs. J. M. McDonald, of Remuera, are cousins of Mrs. Pilkington.
