TWO MONTHS' WORK.

BUT HE CAN'T FIND MEN.

WHANGAREI FARMER'S REPORT.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

WHANGAREI, Tuesday,

The Whangarei Hospital Board yesterday was faced with an extraordinarily large number of requests for charitable aid.

"I cannot understand why the times are so hard," said Mr. J. A. S. Mackay. "Most people that have work to do have the greatest difficulty in getting men to do it. On my place there is two months' work for someone —not skilled labour — and I can't even get a price. The last pair engaged on it made an average of 25/ a day. It is hard to understand that hardship is so great in the town, while the need of labour is so great in the country." "It is the spirit of the age," commented a member.
