BANK HOLIDAYS.
■ BUSINESS MEN'S PROPOSALS. FIVE DAYS ELIMINATED. WILL THE BANKS AGREE ? (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star. , ;) ' WELLINGTON, this day, Five days less a year are proposed in the new schedule of bank holidays drawn up by th 6 Associated Chambers of Commerce after consultation with their various provincial bodies. The move for a reduction in the number of bank holidays began some months ago after representations had been made to the Associated Banks, and Mr. F. T. Grose, the banks' chairman, stated that it would be wise for the business community to make specific representations. He had never, during his association with
the banking world in New Zealand, known of any definite proposals being made, said Mr. Grose. Now the chambers have approved a schedule which is the same as the existing one, but deletes the four Saints' days and Dominion Day (Ma"rch 1, March. 17, April 23, September 23, and November 30). This schedule was placed before the •chairman of the Associated Banks recently, but as he is at present abroad it is uncertain what action will be taken by tho banking men.
