SCHOOLBOYS ON TOUR. TRIP TO NORTH AUCKLAND. Last week a team of schoolboys, with Mr. E. Davis as manager and Mr. W. Ker as coach and selector, visited North Auckland, playing North Auckland schools at Whangarei on Thursday and Hikurangi, at Hikurangi, the following day. The tourists had a fine trip and a most hospitable reception. The city lads were slightly heavier all round than the North Auckland team (with the exception of two very big local lads, Brown and Jones) and they scored a comfortable win. At halftime the score was 2—o in the visitors' favour, but their combiuation in the second spell gave them a decided lead, the game ending in a score of 17—2 in the Auckland boys' favour. Munro, Smith, Godfrey, Phillips, Jack and Scott showed out for the winners, while Tautariy Patterson, Brown and Fyle were the pick of the local lads. Tries were scored for Auckland by Phillips (2), Godfrey, Smith and Jack, and Phillips added a goal. Patterson kicked a goal for North Auckland. At Hikurangi, against a much heavier side, the Auckland boys were hard put to it to score a win by 6 points to 4. A Sassing bout from the scrum enabled odfrey to score for the visitors. Hikurangi then kept the opposition busily defending, and the Auckland captain (Smith) had to retired injured, his place being taken by Atkins, while Godfrey directed field operations. Two field goals in succession put Hikurangi in front. In a final effort by the Aucklanders both Lund and Neill got over the Hikurangi line but were recalled. Eventually Phillips got away, and in a dodgy run cut through the defence, to score a try, which gave victory to the visitors.
