SETTLEMENT ARRANGED

CONFERENCE OF DOCTORS. STEAMER ACCIDENT AT CHELSEA. PERMANENT PARTIAL INCAPACITY. ' After a conference which occupied over an hour between eight doctors, four for each side, a • decision was entered by the Arbitration Court at 1 p.m. to-day, in a compensation suit. The claimant was John \V. Metcaif, a waterside worker, who suffered. injury to his right ankle and right arm.through falling from a .ladder—a distance of 17 feet—"into the lower hold of the steamer Elveric at Chelsea on July 31 last year. The defendants were the stevedores, Messrs. Leonard and Dingley, Limited.

The defendants, who paid compensation of £3 8/5 weekly up to December 11 last, had before the action tendered on June 11 the sum of £125, representing full compensation to August 25, with medical- expenses, - £1, but this amount was refused by plaintiff and had been paid into Court. Mr. J. J. Sullivan said he was pleased to inform the Court that a settlement had been reached, involving the sum of £125 paid into Court, and an additional 13 per cent for permanent partial incapacity, or approximately £75, with £5 5/ costs and £8 8/ medical expenses. Mr. J. Hore, for defendants, concurred and an order accordingly was entered.
