HARBOUR BOARD'S CASE.

In his capacity as Government rem-e----sentatiro on the Auckland 'Harbour Board, Mr. E. Aldridge, Mayor of Devonport, conferred to-day with the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. Sir Joseph Ward), the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. E. A. Ransom) and the engineer-in-chief of the Public Works Department (Mr. F. W. ITurkert) on matters relating to the proposed Harbour Bridge Commission.
; Mr. Aldridge, who was supported by Mr. A. Harris, M.P. for Waitemata, conveyed to the Prime-Minister and Minister of Public W%rks the resolutions carried by the Auckland Harbour Board in respect to the personnel of the proposed commission. It was pointed out by Mr. Aldridge that he was not acting in any spirit of opposition to the Harbour Bridge Association, of which ho was an active member, but that, as a member of the Harbour Board, he had been deputed to make clear the attitude of the board.
The full text of the board's.resolutions was submitted to Sir Joseph and the Minister of Public Works, Mr. Aldridge explaining, that the board felt the personnel of the commission should be such as to safeguard all the interests involved. The names already published did not suggest that the personnel was adequate. An assurance wa's given by the Prime Minister that Cabinet had not so far discussed the personnel of the commission. Before any definite decision was arrived at the representations made would be fully and carefully considered, and Sir Joseph said that Messrs. Aldridge and Harris could rest assured that the Government would do the right thing.
