SYDNEY DERBY ENTRIES.
When the New South Wales Trotting Club announced a £500 three-year-old race for April, it could scarcely_ have expected such a numerous entry. Eightynine colts and fillies have been nominated, which goes to ehow what an immense Rominatien might be expeoied if the club ran an annual three-year-old race on usual Derby conditions (says Sydney "Sportsman"). There are quite a number nominated with illustrious relatives, and J. B. Sheehan has a colt by Don Pronto (imp.), out of Thora, thus a half-brother to Auto Machine and Flying Machine. E. C. Simpson, of Armidale, has four entered, by Wilbur Lou (imp.), in addition to a highly-bred American colt. D. Gordon has a filly by Marble Arch, from Francesca, the dam of champion Sheik, 4.24. Never were so many fast three-year-olds seen out on the Sydney tracks as last season. And it will not be surprising if they are outdone by this season's crop of youngsters.
