LEAGUE CLASH.

NORTHERN UNION CUP

CANTERBURY'S QUEST.

THE THIRD CHALLENGE,

STRONG SOUTHERN TEAM

For the third time this season the Auckland Rugby League representative thirteen will be called upon to defend the Northern Union Cup at Carlaw Park on Saturday. This time the challenge for the trophy has conic from the redoubtable Canterbury League, and the indications are that the Auckland side is not going to have matters all its own way. The Southerners have been regarded as the city players' most formidable opponents for many years, and they are said to have another clever combination this season. They gave a good performance against the West Coast, rthowing nippiness among the backs and devil and dash in the forwards.

The visitors will be captained by J. Sanders, a clever and versatile back. The Auckland team is little different from that which had such a close call against North Auckland last Saturday. Gregory, however, will be seen at full-back instead of five-eighths, and should be more at home, while Delgrosso should prove more dangerous closer up to the scat of the attack and in company with Seagar, the artistic Shore five-eighths. On paper the teams appear to be well matched.

The curtain-raiser should provide a lively contest, and one that is interesting in that it has a bearing on the senior division. Ellerslie, the "wooden spoon" winners of the senior A division, will meet Point Chevalier, winners of the senior B competition, to decide which will compete against the first grade thirteens next vear.

The Auckland representative team wil consist of the following:—
