NORTH ISLAND REPS.

PROBABLE SELECTION.

SEVEN COUNTRY PLAYERS.

The inter-island Rugby League match will be played at Carlaw Park on September 7. The South Island team has been chosen, while the constitution of the orth team is unofficially announced as follows:— Gregory, Hamilton (North Auckland), Brisbane, L. Scott, Delgrosso, Meyer (North Auckland), Shortland, Menzies, Stephenson, Trautvettor, Timms (all South Auckland), Francis, Berghan (North Auckland). The team is a fairly good one, but will create a good deal of adverse comment. The full-back position as filled is open to question. Gregory admittedly is a proven player, and' while he was overshadowed on Saturday, it must be remembered that he was not in form, and additionally has not been regularly playing this season as custodian. Moreover, his form has not been good, and many will contend that Delarrosso would oe better located in the last line. The latter and Brisbane have been playing wonderful football, and merit their places. The new winger, Rod. Hamilton, certainly distinguished himself on Saturday, but lacks experience. His proper berth is at centre. Len. Scott has not impressed lately, but can be relied upon in big football. The selection of Meyer, who has shown outstanding ability in club football in the North, will give satisfaction, and he should go well with Delgrosso, imparting that speed and thrustfulness so essential to clever rearguard action. Most surprising is the selection of Shortland. Auckland has several fine half-backs, including Olliff (Ellerslie), Mclntyre (Ponsonby), Hassan (Marist), but most critics will agree that Abbott, the South Aucklander, has prior claims. The inclusion of the four big South Auckland ruckmen will be generally approved. Francis still has a lot to learn, but Berghan, the sturdy little Northerner, is undoubtedly qualified as a breakaway, being also a great tackier. Two players who appear to be unlucky are Seagar (Devonport) „nd Tittleton, the Waikato three-quarter, who deserves a, chance to show hia prowess.

Probably there will be several minor changes before the team is finallv arranged for the event. There need no fear, however, that the side which takes the field will consist of other than players of calibre well able to uphold the good name of the North Island.
