ETCHINGS FROM EUROPE.
MR. J. M. .A. ILOTT'S COLLECTION. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. Over £1,000,000 worth of etchings passed through the hands of a New Zealand collector while he was visiting big art dealers in Europe. The dealer was Mr. J. M. A. Illiot,. Of Wellington, who has recently returned to New Zealand and is reputed to possess one of the -iinest collections of etchings, south of the equator With Mr. Ilott there came to the Dominion wonderful prints by the famous etchers and artists, Rembrandt, Durer and Meryon, purchased at a cost stated to be thousands of pounds. Mr. Ilott also acquired a number of prints by modern etchers. He states that although the prices of Anders Zorn have recently collapsed, values of prints by James Mcßey, Muirliead Bone and D. Y. Cameron, all of whom are represented in his cpllectjon, • are still, rising. In these cases quality prints command hundreds of pounds._ . , I '
