DEVONPORT'S NEW SERGEANT
FAREWELL AND PRESENTATION. (From Our Own Correspondent.) TAUMARUNUT, Friday. Last evening a public farewell was tendered to Sergeant J. O'Brien, who has been transferred to Devonport. The Mayor, Mr. C. A. Boles, presided, ana over 100 people were present. Mr. Boles congratulated the sergeant 011 his promotion and referred to the good work lie had done during his eight years' residence in Taumarunui. On behalf of the citizens he presented Sergeant O'Brien with a substantial cheque. Sergeant O'Brien's good work and popularity were praised by Messrs. J. A. Gordon, A, E. Seaton, and A. S. Laird.
