READY AT CALL.
! ST. JOHN AMBULANCE APPEAL STREET DAY ON FRIDAY. There are good reasons for believing that the stUoet collections which are to be made on Friday next for the support of the excellent; work of the St. John Ambulance services in Auckland will, meet .with a ready and full response at the' hands of the public. , In no organisation in Auckland , is, the. spirit of community service more highly developed than in this association. One has only to communicate in person or by telephone to meet with courtesy and prompt action, and the familiar spectacle of efficient ambulances flying through the streets, in times of need' is a further reminder. that if these services were remoyed would be. missed, by the" community. ' - Some idea, of the - 'scope of the association's work is provided by an interesting set of figures which have been, taken out. ' Last year the district nurses paid 7407 visits to poor patients, and atthe ambulance station gave attention to, 805 out patients. Ambulance officers, conveyed 1279 patisnts to hospital or their homes, and rendered first aid to 3130 workers: on the waterfront. Members' of the brigade rendered first aid' to TOOB4 persons who were sick or injured. The honorary officers who Rive so much of their time to administration state that in "order to maintain these services' for another year the sum of £1600 is irenuire'd. Thev believe that the people of Auckland will provide that sum.
