MANUKAU CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

The annual meeting of the OnehungaManukau Chamber of Commerce was held on Wednesday evening. Mr. D. H. Kirk-Jones presided. Train From Penrose—The President reported that the Railway Department had put on a train from Penrose to Onehunga in the afternoon, and it had proved satisfactory to the travelling public and to the Department. Tlie question of a return train from Onehunga to Penrose will be considered next summer. He also stated that the Borough Council had done their full share in making improvements to the approach from the wharf. The Railway Department was filling up and levelling the ground with spoil. When this had been completed the open space would be beautified. No Money Available.—ln answer to a request for a contribution to the building fund of the Onehunga Kindergarten, it was decided to forward the secretary a copy of the balance-sheet, as evidence of the chamber's inability to give a donation. Election of Officers. —The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr. D. H. Kirk-Jones, re-elected; immediate past-president, Mr. H. J. Davies, J. P.; vice-president, Mr. T. S. Bassett, J.P.; committee, Messrs, G. H. Bray, J. Pilkington, J. E. Green, C. F. Milnes, F. H. Dodd, 11. Stoupe, ilnd J. Clarkson; secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. G. Houldsworth; auditor, Mr. W. Yeatman. A new rule was adopted providing that the immediate past-president shall be a member of the executive. Day of Meeting—lt was decided to meet in future on the second Wednesday in the month, beginning in Ssptember. Ladies' Rest Room—The meeting decided to revive the correspondence with the borough council for the erection of a ladies' rest room on the ground already purchased for that purpose. Delegates to Conference—Messrs. T. C. Schnackenberg, A. G. Houldsworth, and J. Pilkington were appointed delegates to the annual conference of Associated Chambers to be held in Auckland next October, and they were instructed to support a remit urging the Government to levy income tax on individual dividends and not on the total of the limited companies.
