AUCKLAND RACING CLUB.
THE ANNUAL REPORT,
The annual report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Auckland Racing Club, to be held at the Chamber of Commerce on Monday, August 12, states that the club's operations had again met with success, notwithstanding the adverse weather conditions experienced at the Christmas' meeting. Stakes amounting to £61,250 were paid away during the season, exclusive of £300 sweepstakes contributed by owners. The horses competing at the various meeting were of good class, and some splendid racing was witnessed. The alterations to the course proper had now been completed. No further improvements were contemplated for the immediate future, as the committee desired to sec the club's finances in such a position as soon as possible as would justify the inauguration of the general building and improvement scheme outlined last year. A Bum of £3,889 18/2 had been written off buildings and plant for depreciation. A balance of £1200 7/11 was left to be transferred to capital account.
It was with deep regret the committee had to refer to a number of deaths among members since last annual meeting, viz., Messrs. Bradley (for many years a member of the committee), E. R. Bloomfield, J. L. R. Bloomfield, W. J. Brown, H. P. Cameron, J. C. Dunn, Hugo Friedlander, R. Friedlander, Geo. Green, H. P. Kissling, John Milne, H. L. C. Mowbray, and T. Wingfield. Nominations for office-bearers for the ensuing term had been received as follows:—President, Sir Edwin Mitchelson, Iv.C.MiG., M.L.C.; vice-president, Mr. H. O. Nolan; stewards (three seats), Messrs. M. J. Lynch, Wm. C. Ring, and G. A. Wynyard/ Being the only nominations for the respective positions they will be declared duly elected. For the five seats on the committee Messrs. J. M. Carpenter, R. W. Duder. M. M. Louisson, N. Alfred Nathan, and Dr. A. McGregor Grant (retiring committeemen) arid Mr. Thomas Impey have been nominated.
