RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES.
WILTSHIRE LOOKING WELL. GOLD CURE'S SOLID APPEARANCE. KING BALBOA IN GOOD FETTLE. (By Telegraph.—Spccial to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH. this day. The Riccarton tracks presented a busy appearance this morning'. There was no fast galloping, but a large number of horses got through useful tasks on the sand "track. Among those who worked were horses who arrived the previous day, these including a big contingent from the north and several from the southern districts. A sharp frost over night delayed training operations a little until the ground thawed under the influence of sunshine. Mime was schooled over a round of the hurdles. He jumped the first three in very attractive style, but made a poor attempt at the fourth, where he came to grief, his rider, J. T. Humphris, getting off luckily with a few scratches. Exide jumped four hurdles. He went at a sound pace and gave a good exhibition. Novar went twice round the sand, his mate, Mister Gamp, being absent on a visit to the blacksmith. Wiltshire bowled along freely over two circuits on the sand. He appears to have come through a solid preparation, and he should be a fit horse to tackle his second Grand National. Mangani did a couple of rounds, moving freely. He looks in excellent order. Uralla went twice round at a sound pace, and seems to have got through a lot of work. Gold Cure hit out freely in a useful work out. He bears a very solid appearance, and evidently has done well since he raced at Trentham. Horomea, who raced well in hack hurdle events at Trentham, bears a seasoned look, and she went freely in strong pace work. R. Johnson gave Anolo and Bonogne useful work. They look a likely pair. King Balboa went well in useful work, and he looks like being hard to beat in flat races during the approaching carnival. Radiate moved very freely while doing strong pace work on the sand, and appeared to be much sounder than usual. He is not likely to stand much racing, however, and there is a slight doubt about him being a starter in the Homeby Steeplechase to-morrow, R. Hani]on arrived this morning and gave King's Guard some easy pace work. First Raid and Exide have arrived from the south. E.' Shaw has been engaged to pilot Radiate, Radiac, Lancer aand La Pompadour to-morrow, but the first-named pair are not certain starters. C. Eastwood will ride Rascal, Quick Plunge and The Bailiff in their engagements to-morrow. L. J. Ellis will be°on King Balboa%ind Red Boa, J. T. Humphris on Mime, Troilus and Fresh Breeze, and W. Pascoe on Solferite Leader and Hounslow. '
