QUEST FOR LEAGUE CUP.

SOUTH AUCKLAND CHALLENGE

STRONG COUNTRY THIRTEEN.

FIRST REP, GAME

A prolific field for the development of Rugby League talent, considering that such fine exponents of the thirteen-a-sidc game as B. Laing,. T. Littlewood, Len Mason, Lou Hutt, A. Payne, T. Peckham and L. Stewart have come from it, the Waikato has selected a side to play at Carlaw Park next Saturday that should fully extend the elect of Auckland. The team is as follows: — Pull-back.—G. Raynor. Three-quarters. —B. Paki, B. Jackways, E. Tittleton. Five-eighths.—J. Farrell and D. Whorsky. Half-back.—E. Abbott. Forwards.—J. Jones, J. Hogan, T. Timms, J. Menzies, R, Stephenson and R. Trautvetter. Emergencies. —S. Muir, J. Muir, J. Daley and J. Montieth. provincial players will engage the Auckland team in the first representative encounter of the .season, and the fixture is being looked forward to by League enthusiasts with keen anticipation. Given a fine day the match should bristle with scintillating movements, as many of the visitors' side have been tried and tested, and demonstrated that they are particularly adapted to the fast, open, passing game.

Their forwards can always be relied on to combine with, the backs, and at the same time lend every ounce of weight in the pack. Men who are particularly well known in Auckland because of their fine performances at headquarters in the past are George Eaynor, B. Paki, E. Tittleton and E. Abbott —a quartet of clever and versatile backs—and J. Jones, J. Menzies, T. Timms, R. Stephenson and 11. Trautvetter—a set of battling, forwards, who play hard and clean football. Commenting on the team, Mr. R. Hii!, president of the South Auckland Rugby League, states .that the team is a particularly good one and capable of putting up a fine performance. Should they get off the mark at the start, the Auckland team at the death, will know they have been playing and the spectators will get their money's worth. "There is not a passenger, in the thirteen," he adds, "and every man is deserving of rep. honours. Given a line day (or even a wet one) the match should rank'as the best on Carlaw Park this season.' 'The players are very confident, and are in excellent form after two trial matches played before the final selection-was. made.. The team is as good as any that lias been sent out of the district."

The- Waikato, team will arrive in Auckland at 11' o'clock on Saturday morning, and be met at.the station by their delegate on the New Zealand Rugby Council (Mr. W. J. Taylor). They will return South by the second express on Sunday evening.
