MOTOR VEHICLES.

LARGE AMERICAN SHIPMENT. OVER 300 NEW CARS*. PORT GISBOKNE ARRIVES.

A large shipment of motor cars for New Zealand arrived at Auckland from New York last evening by the steamer Port Gisborne. In a total of 340 automobiles of numerous makes, the shipment comprised 102 for Auckland, 109 for Wellington, 67 for Christchurch, and the balance for Dunedin.

The Port Gisborne had in addition a heavy consignment of automobile accessories and rubber goods. Much of this part of the shipment was for Wellington, where it will be delivered to the manufacturing p'.ants established in connection with the motor industry in this Dominion.

Though the shipment does not rank as the largest of the kind from America, it is an indication of the high rate of motor absorption by New Zealand that such shipments should be arriving with comparative frequency. This is_ in marked contrast with the conditions after the war, when shipment was less numerous and the motor trade was called upon occasionally to cope with a delivery of almost a thousand cars in a single shipment. The present arrangements for a more 6teady supply have been a result of the organisation developed for the distribution of motor vehicles in this country. One feature of the change has been the growth of central agencies with branches in the principal centres. In the balance of the Port Gisborne's cargo are electrical materials, machinery, apparatus for "talkie" installations and plant for dairying concerns.
