Dear Everybody, One thousand one hundred and one days ago something very special happened in the lives of juvenile readers of the Auckland Starevent is now known as the birth of the Budget baby. He was hailed with joy then; thousands watched his tottering footsteps develop into sturdy little =aces. Soon he became the mirror in which was seen the reflection of his admirers; to-day he is the product of your own handwork. It has been so pleasing to your captain to see the consistently-riwng standard of work sent in by the readers in outlying The "country section" of the club is truly a "far-flung battle fine, for it would be hard to find a settlement in the North Island which has no "Budget" representative. Especially during this last year have country readers come into prominence and now many of our best and most consistent contributions are wafted on the country breezes. Therefore, in selecting from this field the 1929 Knights and Ladies, your Captain bestows an honour to be shared collectively, rather than . individually. "Eden Coombes, Taumarunui, and Charles Taylor, receive on behalf of the country community the honour of Knighthood." , Recognition must also be given to the score of others, who, both in town and country, have helped build the Budget. Those whose photographs are reproduced elsewhere are but as a few grains of sand m a desert; to publish photographs of all who deserve recognition would be impossible. In their selection an effort has been made to choose those who have not previously received recognition. All who have upheld our motto and worked for the advancement of our page know they have a little XJ/ mark beside their names in the good 1 deed book, locked away in the heart of
