WAIHI MOTORISTS FINED.

FAILURE TO REPORT ACCIDENT

WAIHI, this day,

Bartlc Lund, of Katikati, farmer, was charged at the Magistrate's Court today with driving a motor car on the wrong side of the street, and with failing to report an accident. Defendant pleaded guilty. Sergeant Caldwell said Lund cut a corner and collided with a motor cyclist, the latter being slightly injured. Defendant failed to report the accident though he returned and spoke to the cyclist. "Defendant said it was somewhat dusk at the time. Hp was also driving a car he was not v/ell acquainted with, and made a mistake with the accelerator. He was ignorant of the necessity of having to report an accident. He had since settled with the cyclist.

Defendant was fined 20/ with costs, 10/ for failing to keep to the left, and convicted and ordered to pay costs on the other charge. Fairfax Johnston, a miner of Waihi, pleaded guilty to failing to keep to the left at an intersection.

Sergeant Calwell said defendant's car also collided witli a motor cyclist at the same spot as the previous, accident. The motor cycle was damaged. The magistrate said in view of the fact that defendant might be required to pay damages lie would only impose a fine of 40/ with costs. Albert Lynch, of Waitawheta, farmer, was charged with driving a motor car without a license, failing to have a certificate, and also a license for the car endorsed with the change of ownership. He was fined 10/ on each charge with costs.
