SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

Readings of three one-act plays were 1 given by a party of friends- at Mrs. : Russell-Wood's home in Mount Street on Monday evening. The plays, which were ronvincingly read, were interpreted as follows: "James and John." a powerful play by Gilbert Cannan. by Mrs. E. Wood and Mes-srs. P. C. Garrett, W. CnssellWood. and W. E. Tapper presided over a large attendance of members. The annual report was read, and showed that the girls had accomplished excellent work. Appreciative letters have been received from many quarters thanking the girls for the assistance they have given throughout the year. The following officers were elected: Patroness, Lady Gunson; president, Miss Majorie Mason: vice-presi-dents. Mrs. G. Eddowes, Misses H. King, Y. Clarke; hon. secretary. Miss I. Wight: hon. treasurer. Miss G. Williams. Miss Thompson was appointed convener of the book work committee. A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring officers. At the close of the meeting tea was served, the hostesses, being Misses Tapper and Wight. A plain and fancy dress dance was held iu St. Michael's Hall. Belmont, last night, of which the proceeds will go towards the hall fund. The attendance was excellent, also the music provided by the Harmonic Trio. The stage was prettily arranged with large yellow sunflowers and greenery, and the hall with streamers and balloons.
