CREW GO SHOPPING
OBJECTION TO DOXKEYMAX -
The crew of the Union Company s steamer Kaituna, held the vessel in por: from Saturday evening until close on noon yesterday. The vessel was echsdiiled to sail for Qreyinouth at 0 p.m. on Saturday but at sailing time the men demanded a fortnight's wages, and three hours' leave to go up town to shop. When the men returned at i> o'clock they objected to sail with the donkeyman, who had been in the vessel tor over a year. The donkeyiuaii resigned, but the crew refused to accept the substitute that was engaged. ■ This dispute kept the vessel in por, overnight. In the morning one ot tne trimmers was missing, and another reported sick. Before the vessel could sail, one of the firemen had to be promoted to donkeyman, and another fireman and ■two trimmers' signed on.
