Ponsonby made a gallant effort to play the open game, but were met remorselessly by quick-covering defence. In the curtainraiser Kingsland-Athletic badly bustled City, while across the way on Xo, 2 ground, Marists struggled home against Newton, and Richmond narrowly defeated Ellerslie. DEFEAT OF PONSONBY.
